У 2016 році юна модель Ава Кларк своєю незвичайною зовнішністю підкорила світ моди. 9-річна афроамериканка народилася з альбінізму - захворюванням, через якого в її організмі немає пігменту меланіну, який відповідає за забарвлення шкіри, волосся, райдужної і пігментного оболонки очей.
Своєю унікальною красою і не менш цікавою особистістю дівчинка привернула увагу кількох модельних агентств. Фотографії Ави прикрасили обкладинки журналів Vogue, BOOM і Denim, вона встигла попрацювати з іменитими фотографами і підкорити їх своїм життєрадісним характером і серйозним підходом до роботи.

Однак не завжди її життя було безхмарним.
The Stare Down At 2 months old Ava Clarke was diagnosed as being blind. Doctors referred us to specialists at the School for the Blind. Their Low Vision Interventionist visited our home every other week for 5 years. "Aunt Marla" became part of our family. She helped us adapt to Ava's needs, she celebrated with us, and sometimes she was simply there for me. Ava's eyesight started to improve before she turned 1. It was nothing short of a miracle and God's grace (her doctors agreed). Most people do not realize Ava has vision problems. She adjust well to her surroundings and she wears glasses ~ sometimes. We visit the ophthalmologist every 6 months and we go to the Low Vision Clinic once a year. We could not let the month of February end without acknowledging Low Vision Awareness Month. Low vision is the term used for irrepairable visual impairments, such as blurred vision, blind spots or tunnel vision. In observance of Low Vision Awareness Month, we encourage everyone to have a complete eye exam from a licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist. #staredown #lowvision #albinism #awareness #eyeexam #avaclarke

Але білява дівчинка не тільки спростувала страшний діагноз, але і пішла далі. Ава вчиться у звичайній школі і ходить в окулярах.
